Metaphive wants to bring back the classic hip-hop feeling of the days when bars and fresh flows mattered more than beats and catchy hooks. He moved to Jackson, MS from Yonkers, NY at the age of 14 and brought the sensibilities of the boroughs down south along with him. His ethnic background is a combination of Sicilian, Black and Irish and that diversity helped to influence his musical tastes as well. He grew up listening to music from classic big band acts such as Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Dean Martin before discovering more contemporary hip-hop and rock acts. He cites finding inspiration in artists such as J. Cole, Jadakiss and Eminem but say Jay Z is his favorite MC of all-time. Rock music is also one the genres that had an influence on his sound and names punk band, The Deftones as his favorite band.

The origin of his name is a clever play on words that began as a joke suggestion from a friend.  “I got the name Metaphive, from a friend who was being sarcastic. I was thinking of a stage name and he has always said I dropped bars that go over the average listener’s head. So he said, “why don’t you just call yourself Metaphive. Just a more advanced metaphor.” The name stuck and it’s pretty fitting considering the lyrical he unleashes on his latest project The Divergence.

The Divergence is unapologetic hip hop that is a constant onslaught of brash bars over boom bap beats. The commitment to making real hip hop music in a time when the majority of artists are satisfied with sales over substance is a welcome change of pace. Along with his constant crew of collaborators in Sin City Ent., Metaphive hopes to breathe new life into a genre that has been declared dead on more than one occasion.

“I want to make sure that REAL HIP-HOP, never dies. I’m here to make ppl LISTEN, not just “hear” hip-hop.”
