Capitol Q is one of the dopest rappers to come out of Mississippi. He combines street commentary with detailed storylines mixed with a dose of humor at times, and it all comes together to create his own unique style. We go way back… As many people know, I was at the forefront of the mixtape game in my city and state in the early 2000s, and that came out of conversations Q and I had at the time. He was instrumental in the format of the mixtapes as well as many of the distinctive drops that took our city by a storm. We also released his dope classic somewhat slept on album Thinkin Out Loud on my Future Shock Records label. I took a really long hiatus (5 years!) on dropping mixtapes before I ended up dropping Pimp My Ride vol 35 with DJ 1200 late last year. So it’s great to be coming full circle and co-hosting Capitol Q’s new mixtape, Westside of Town vol 2 , along with my homegirl DJ Boss Chic (who’s killing the game right now!) . I had a chance to speak with him about his upcoming release during this past 4th of July Weekend.
I also give business owners from West Jackson an opportunity to promote their business. On this particular volume I got Omar(Mr Tat2) doing some promo.
Q: Who are some of the artists who’s songs are featured on the mixtape?
A: The mixtape features songs by Lil C, Dono Vegas,Corna Boi, Peewee Nino, Tremble, Murk G just to name a few. I also have a few solo tracks on there
Q: Do you have any longterm goals for the mixtape series?
A: My long term goal is to create a movement so that maybe we can start putting together our own Westside shows and events
Q: What is one of your favorite songs by you on there and why?
A: My favorite song by me on here is a song called Reporting Live(Bert Case). Its me rapping, as a news reporter, about everything thats happening in West Jackson. And its also a tribute to a famous news reporter that just passed in Jackson. I like it because all of the stories that I talk about on there are real.
Q: I know that song was actually been featured on the news.. What has been the overall reaction to that song?
A: People showed me a lot of love for that song. Some people said it made them laugh. Some people say they cried but the overall response was pretty good
