Some people think that Donald Glover a.k.a Childish Gambino is nothing more than a gimmick rapper using his fame from other ventures such as being a principle cast member on “Community” and being a writer on “30 Rock” to make music just because he can. However, Gambino definitely has a message that he’s trying to get out there to the masses about being themselves and not worrying about what others think of you. I think that is very important, especially in today’s musical climate when many artists have little more to speak about than wealth, sex, drugs and other forms of reckless speech. Chance the Rapper is also featured on the track (albeit in a very small role) and they go together like peanut butter and jelly. The co-production by Gambino and his usual cohort Ludwig Goransson is spaced out and evolves throughout the track leading up to one of the most satisfying song conclusions I’ve ever heard. Glover is definitely an inspiration and a symbol that grinding and being yourself pays off in the long run. After reading the article that Complex ran on him last month I have an even higher respect for him. His view of the world is as refreshing as the music he creates. Check out the track.
