Chokwe Antar Lumumba has been elected the mayor of Jackson, MS! Last night at the King Edward Hotel was so emotional. The energy was so positive. The love could be felt emanating throughout the room as Chokwe A. Lumumba entered with his family for a rousing victory celebration with the people. The crowd could hardly contain their joy as his sister, his wife and the mayor-elect himself gave beautiful speeches that invigorated the audience.
There were plenty of familiar faces in the room. There were artists, business owners, journalists, people from all around the world, people from around the various neighborhoods of Jackson and everyone in between. I could tell that Chokwe was truly chosen by the people just by taking a look at the diversity of the individuals around me.
I’m so ecstatic to have a young, visionary and enthusiastic mayor in office. I was heavily involved in Chokwe’s campaign last year, working the phones, working the polls, attending campaign meetings, etc. Sadly, I couldn’t be as involved as I was last year due to work but I tried to contribute in any way that I could. I believe in the change that is possible with Chokwe at the helm guiding our city to a brighter future.
I hope that the other candidates will support our new mayor as he works to improve the city with methods that are for the people and by the people. It’s so amazing to have the Lumumba Legacy back in City Hall. I see nothing but great things ahead for the citizens of Jackson and I’m so proud that we could all come together and make the right choice.
This is something truly revolutionary. Not just in Mississippi, not just in the United States but internationally! This victory is being celebrated around the world, Lumumba’s reach and connections are more than what most people are aware of. The world is standing in awe of Jackson, MS for the right reasons for once. I’m proud of my city and I’m proud of the people here working to make Jackson as great as it could be.
Jackson is a city filled with so much potential that so many people overlook or just refuse to see. Scrolling through social media I see so many negative comments from people that live here and have been here since birth. I hope that with our new leadership that can be changed. I love Jackson and I look forward to seeing it flourish in the near future. A Lumumba is back in office ya’ll! One City. One Aim. One Destiny. #FTL
