The electro-soul duo Clouds & Crayons has released the second video from their highly-anticipated visual album Love Soliloquy. The video for “Never Make Love” provides a first person view of a young woman experiencing a very important reason to never make love. The video was directed by the ever-talented and the always amazing Astin “Astin Rocks” Sullivan.
The video uses light in a mesmerizing fashion. The flickering bonfire and dancing party-goers creates an atmosphere where it seems like anything can happen in the name of fun. It seems like the perfect place to make hasty, alcohol-fueled decisions. The blinding brightness of the next morning is puts things into an all-new perspective.
The revelations of the morning sun bring unclouded judgments for both parties involved. The rage of the young woman is completely palpable as she rips into her overnight lover for being the ultimate fuckboy. His annoyance was also felt, considering they were technically both in the wrong. Sullivan has a knack for making you feel the emotions of the characters onscreen. The entire scenario seems so realistic that it almost feels voyeuristic while watching it unfold. Honestly, I’m sure this is a scene that is common to many college campuses across the nation.
The imagery of “Never Make Love” is so vibrant and exciting. It pairs perfectly with the slow burning instrumental of Loki Antiphony and the haunting vocals of Astin Sullivan. It’s a perfect storm that leaves the viewer entranced and invested.
“Never Make Love” is beautifully shot, well-performed and begs for repeat viewings to catch every single minor detail of what’s happening onscreen. If the rest of Love Soliloquy is like this my excitement levels for the full release have risen considerably. What are your thoughts on the video? Let us know in the comments below.
