I would like to introduce you all to Christina Marie, a singer/rapper/Youtube personality from Mississippi.
Christina Marie has been singing since she was 3 years old in the church and ever since then she knew her destiny was to share her voice with the world. At 24, Marie is dedicated to making quality music while pushing her musical boundaries and never becoming confined to one musical genre. She’s inspired by her favorite songs of years gone by and her personal life. The accomplishment she’s pushing achieve is to make music that the world can listen and relate to so that she may be an inspiration to others.
She recently had her first major live performance in front of her family and peers on the campus of MSU. She’s definitely an artist to watch because she’s coming at the industry from more than one angle. I got the chance to chop it up with her a little and ask a few questions. Check it out below:
Me: I was on your Youtube page and saw that you have many talents beyond music. What inspires you to take on entertainment from so many different angles?
CM: I think it’s because I’m probably ADD. Haha. I want to do everything and it’s truly because I feel that I have so much to offer in so many different areas of the entertainment industry.
Me: You are a singer and a rapper. When did you start rapping? Do you prefer one style over the other?
CM: I would say a couple of years ago when I started watching female rap battles on YouTube. I used to watch, study and then pretend that I was a battle rapper. Even though I love rapping, I prefer singing but when I’m in my zone writing music, I never know if it will be rapping or singing.
Me: What message do you hope people receive from your music?
CM: I think that depends on each individual person. Every song I do is basically a audible snapshot of how I was feeling at the time that I wrote it. I just hope that I was able to convey those feelings in a way that everyone who listens can feel the same way whether it be happy, sad, strong, powerful, relieved etc.
Me: If you could collaborate with major artist, who would it be?
CM: I would love to work with Big KRIT. He is an amazing artist and he’s also from Mississippi so that’s just icing on the cake.
Me: What projects are you currently working on? What is the release window?
CM: I am working on my first project entitled “Open Defiance” and I’m hoping to finish and release it in June along with a few visuals.
Me: Are there any local artists in Mississippi that you are interested in working with?
CM:I want to work with artists that respect me as an artist and my music. Not artists that just want to use my voice for personal gain.
Me: What is your favorite track that you’ve done so far?
CM: Both rap and r&b. IAM Queen (rap) and a unreleased song called “OK”
Me: What motivates you to keep grinding for the spotlight?
CM: The fact that I make good music that needs to be heard is what keeps me grinding for the spotlight.
Me: What was it like performing at MSU in front of your friends and classmates?
CM: It was awesome. That was my first live performance as a solo artist and I must say I had a blast seeing all of my family and friends there cheering me on.
Me: What do you think the future has in store for Christina Marie?
CM: Only time will tell. I just hope that I’m able to be in a position where I can sing live more and gain more supporters. 🙂
