J. Skyy has been quiet since the release of his last project Focus at the top of 2016. It appears that the silence was not in vain, he’s back with all new project, 7 , to end the year off as strong as he began. His seventh project features some of his realest and most introspective music yet. He gets personal on tracks such as “Score” and “Pray” and talks about the struggles of chasing your dreams, the obstacles that will inevitably come up in your path and how you can overcome them.

The beat selection is on point as always and melds perfectly with Skyy’s R&B tinged vocals. Production duties were handled by the likes of Charles Palmer, Avevo, ill Phil, Duke Nuke Em and TrellGotWings, so their was some serious talent behind the boards. The features are also quite noteworthy with Skyy bringing along a host of artist for his journey including Ricky Hoodrich, Nickoe, Savvy and Parkway Dee.

The first half is slower paced and finds us exploring the thoughts of Skyy without any features, just him and the beat. “Spark My Interest” is a standout that finds Skyy effortlessly weaving in and out of the Charles Palmer produced track. “Old Me” is also dope and an excellent example of Skyy taking a more personal approach and doing some venting about life’s issues. “Come See You” is sure to be a favorite for the ladies due to how smooth the sample is and the light crooning of Skyy. The second half is more upbeat and features some surefire house party and club bangers such as “My Spot” and  “Fuck Wit Me”. “You Know Why I’m Here” ends the project perfectly and provides a glimpse at the mentality Skyy is bringing into the new year.

Skyy is consistent and continues to progress his sound. Looking forward to seeing what he has in store for 2017. This seems like the warm up for something even larger. We shall see.
