So I’m adding a new article feature to the regular Hood Hippie lineup of artist features, videos and playlists. I’m gonna be writing articles about producers out here putting in work and making monster beats. The first producer I’m going to feature is ill Phil.
I first heard ill Phil’s production skills was on T-lo Da Champ’s “Take Flight”; which he was also featured on. His beats have a hazy, sinister, smoked-out vibe. Definitely the type of music I like to keep in rotation in my work space. Good for encouraging inspiration in artists.
Phil let me know a little about himself:
“I’m a Brooklyn raised percussionist, producer, and artist. He is current obtaining his degree in business at Jackson State University. His latest work is the 3rd installment of ill Phil’s EP series entitled – Neo SteeZ Pt. 3: Summer Nights, all produced by ill Phil himself. He is currently working as the main producer for the Mississippi collective Scraper Gang, and has a video out now via youtube entitled “Crack” ft. Sauce Vegas (Brooklyn).”
Enough talking though, I know y’all ready to hear him yourselves. Check out this playlist I put together of some of my fave tracks from his Soundcloud. Him and the longtime homie TLo seem like peanut butter and jelly when on the track together. Take a listen:
