On April 26, 2016 Reebok dropped a pair of kicks, lovingly dubbed Ripley’s Alien Stompers, inspired by the ones worn by Sigourney Weaver’s character in the “Aliens” film.
I really dig the look of this shoe, but I’m a sucker for science fiction related collectibles in general. If I were a hotshot space explorer cruising the universe these are the kicks I’d rock for my planetary excursions.
The shoes did stir up a bit of unwanted controversy though. It seems that Reebok thought it was wise to release the sneakers inspired by a pivotal female character in mens sizes only.
Fans took to Twitter to express their dismay at such an easily avoidable slip.
<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>wait, <a href=”https://twitter.com/Reebok”>@Reebok</a> Alien Stomper shoes, modeled after the pair worn by Sigourney Weaver, only come in men's sizes?! How can you be so tone deaf?</p>— Don Jenver (@TJECS206) <a href=”https://twitter.com/TJECS206/status/724998257114513408″>April 26, 2016</a></blockquote>
Customers also spoke about the low number of sneakers released. The company tweeted that they were sold out on the site in less than an hour after the initial release.
What’s your opinion on this? Do you think Reebok rushed the shoes to cash in on the opportunity or do you think it was honestly a mistake?
P.S. Shoutout to Venom for putting me up on this dope release. Go check out Offbeat located at 151 Wesley Ave. Comics, Record, Apparel, Collectibles, Beer, Video Games and more. Why wouldn’t you come kick it?
