A couple of weeks ago, I had one of the most mind-altering and spiritually strengthening meetings that I have attended in a long time. I sat down to speak with Dr. Nanetta Payne, Clinical Psychologist & Transformational Coach, to discuss an upcoming event and walked away feeling rejuvenated and inspired.

It felt like Dr. Payne was looking right into my soul and seeing all of my doubts, frustrations, needs and wants. The way she reassured me of myself without ever asking me anything was remarkable and let me know that she was the real deal.

Dr. Nanetta Payne is a Dallas, TX native and has been practicing in the area of mental health for nearly 20 years.  She recently restructured & revitalized her clinical practice.  Her saying ‘Yes’ to the calling of becoming a Minister of Spiritual Consciousness inspired this decision.  She was already implementing a holistic, therapeutic approach, yet she knew it was time to take things to the next level.

“I am now taking my clients on a love voyage.  When I say love voyage I’m referring to the journey of falling in love with every part & piece of self:  the good, as well as the parts we judge as bad or ugly.”, says Dr. Payne.

“I integrate evidenced practices, spiritual principles, and universal laws to support my clients see themselves as powerful co-creator’s of their own life experience. Energy is the grand connector of the universe.  I teach people how to use their innate Power/Energy to attract the experiences they desire.”

It has not been an easy task for Nanetta to take on such a different perspective on healing the mental and emotional scars that are gained by individuals as they maneuver through life. When she enrolled in Inner Visions Institute For Spiritual Development in Maryland that is ran by the renowned Spiritual Life Coach, Rev, Dr. Iyanla Vanzant. She had no idea that she would have to become much closer to herself and recognize her own issues before she could be effective in helping others.

“Upon entering the program I had to go through a personal development program that was essentially two years of therapy for myself. It was the most radical, humbling, challenging, self-loving, experience of my life. It was truly the greatest gift I have ever given myself”, she recalls.

After going through the challenge of discovering her most true self, she is now more prepared than ever to help others do the same and fall in love with themselves and do the work to find their happiness.

“It was an essential investment in leading me to feel my full potential and tap into my greatness that is within. I’m experiencing and expressing the fullness of love and serving the world at a higher level; while having fun in the process”.

In life, there are often obstacles that arise that make us feel as though everything around us is falling apart. Many times people become caught up in these temporary setbacks and let them become ingrained within them. People inherently believe that life is supposed to be hard and difficult to navigate. Dr. Payne does not believe that has to be the case.

“Life is meant to be enjoyed.  Somewhere along the line, people have been conditioned to believe that life has to be hard.  As a result, they attract experiences that validate the belief that “life is hard.”  We don’t get what we want; we get what we expect.”

“Yes, we’re going to fall down, make mistakes, and even experience pain, along the journey yet we do not have to judge our experience as hard, wrong, or even unfair.  Each of us has our individual curriculum.  We have lessons that we must learn, as we grow and expand into our greatness”, Dr. Payne stated.

“Treat life like a roller coaster and go with the flow. The ups and downs are natural, you just have to continue to do your work even when you’re going through the drops.”

Sometimes people just need a listening ear and a helping hand to to get to the point they want to be at in their life. Many people are in search of the purpose of life, specifically their own. It’s scary to imagine that you will never find the answer to life’s ultimate question.

“When we live in our intention and in our purpose we become the demonstration for others to do the same”, says Dr. Payne.

It is not an easy journey to take and it is definitely not a destination that can be arrived at quickly and without work. To achieve these goals we must learn to put the important things in life in order.

Rather than overextending ourselves to please those around us, we should focus on creating our own happiness without feeling ashamed or selfish for putting our needs and wants before those of others.

“I put God first, myself second and everything else falls after that.”, say Nanetta.

Dr. Nanetta Payne is putting a fresh perspective on the idea of what holistic mental health looks like and how it can be used for healing of the mind, body and spirit.
